Guided Bike Rides

An Experienced Guide

I have been riding in the Yorkshire Dales for many years with my close friends and we have produced over 30 routes that have been published by leading journalists in the mountain bike industry. I owned and ran the 'New Inn' in Appletreewick for 21 years and have gained a substantial amount of knowledge about the history and trivia of the areas in which I ride.

I will happily tailor routes to suite all riders within a group, and will always do my very best to ensure that everyone has a great time!

As a registered guide you can be safe with the knowledge that all rides are pre-ridden, fully risk assessed, recorded and that late back procedures are in place to ensure the group's safety.

Please Note : 1-6 Riders. All bikes will have a pre-ride check. Helmets MUST be worn at all times.

SMBLA

As a registered SMBLA rider I am qualified and insured to lead a group of up to six riders, at any time of the year during the day or at night. I am also qualified in Rescue and Emergency Care to Level 3.

British Cycling SMBLA Scheme

The scheme provides training and assessment in mountain biking and leadership skills.

The Scottish Mountain Bike Leaders Award scheme (SMBLA) was developed by Scottish Cycling in conjunction with the Scottish Advisory Panel for Outdoor Education in order to provide a framework and qualification for Leaders to deliver mountain biking as a safe and enjoyable sport and activity.

Scottish Cycling is the governing body for cycle sport in Scotland and an integral part of British Cycling, the internationally recognized governing body for cycle sport in Britain.

The scheme is recognized by the Adventure Activity Licensing Authority (AALA) and Mountain Leader Training Scotland.

  • SMBLA is the only mountain bike leadership award scheme endorsed by British Cycling and the awards are valid throughout Europe.
  • The SMBLA scheme is used by the national centres for outdoor leadership training, such as Glenmore Lodge, Plas y Brenin and Plas Menai.
  • The SMBLA scheme is used by the Joint Services Adventure Instructor Training centres who train outdoor educators for the military.
  • The SMBLA awards are AALS approved. The Adventure Activities Licensing Service (AALS) control the provision of adventure activities to children and vulnerable adults. Approval by AALS is the starting point for any award scheme.
